What SERVICES DO WE OFFER …

CONTEXT ANALYSIS

Context is the key to User-Centred Design. Understanding the needs, goals, and behaviour of the user is the foundation of successful design and delivers true insight.

Typically, our services include stake holder mapping, observational interviews, ethnography, persona generation, workflow analysis and insight generation workshops.

Our partners in the field of user research and strategic design complement our in-house expertise in insight generation, and depending on scale and complexity we can additionally involve them in any project.

EXPERIENCE FLOW

Creating a user experience flow is at the heart of our design process. The ‘FLO’ captures the end-to-end customer journey with all its potential touch points.

In this way, we reveal the current problems in the flow, or we reveal how novel solutions resolve the underlying issues in a redesigned flow. The experience flow delivers a powerful co-design tool in the R&D process, and often acts as a fundamental communication tool.

Most often it takes the form of an annotated illustration, poster, or online canvas.

CONCEPT EXPLORATION

One of FLO interactive’s strengths is the way we develop new concepts and make them tangible in an early stage. In walk-through scenarios of the ‘happy flow’ we bring the proposition alive, and in critical ‘unhappy flow’ scenarios we demonstrate the robustness of our solution.

Our clients use our demonstrators for early user/ market acceptance testing of our concepts, or as a means to focus the scope of the product and plan the development. 

Typically, concepts are captured in wireframes, story board illustrations, simulations or in video, depending on the goals.

HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERING

In some domains Human Factors can be critical (cf. AAMI “Human Factors for Medical Devices”), especially where standard compliance is a consideration. 

Our expertise includes ergonomics, usability reviews, risk and hazard reviews, user testing, focus groups and A-B testing.

Our partners in the field of user research complement our in-house expertise in the area of Human Factors and market testing, and depending on scale and complexity we can additionally involve them in any project.

SIMULATION AND PROTOTYPING

We use simulation to illustrate an experience, and as an interactive medium for discussion and early (design) tests. We have extensive experience with many platforms and interaction modalities, from desktop to mobile, mechanical, haptic and even speech control.

More challenging, more involved, a prototype is as close to the actual product as possible and in some cases defines the base or beta software/hardware. A prototype is realized in partnership with software and hardware developers.

UI DESIGN SUPPORT

Once the direction is set and minimum viable product defined the design process really begins. We can help in defining and refining user stories, create acceptance criteria and translate these in working designs. We will look at every corner of the experience, define and detail as required, with delivery to document and/or as part of an agile development team.

Our deliverables can include detailed layouts, design patterns, interaction and behavior specifications, flow diagrams, wireframes, graphical specifications and identity style sheets.

PRODUCT DESIGN

User Experience often extends into the physical dimension, with many concepts demanding solutions for hardware interfaces, product form factor and aesthetics, workspace design, ergonomics, and environment of use. Especially when looking for the experience across all customer touchpoints, often the Physical Design needs to be an integral part of the solution.

To enhance or compliment the user experience we can include product design and ambient experience design competences through our partners.

IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT

Experience has taught us that the success of a solution lies in its faithful translation from design into software. As a recognized part of a development team we can orchestrate this process and ensure integrity of delivery.

Through our partners FLO interactive can also offer a ‘one-stop-shop’. Front-end application development in HTML, CSS, or native iOS, provides us with the scope to directly iterate our solution, and build on the development platform to deliver integration with the backend, data model, and business logic.
